[Project] Coolermaster CM-690 II

Hey guys,
I'm currently thinking through upgrading my main rig TJ07 (rig 1) but before hand I need to get this pc updated slightly.
I have 2 PCs under this desk, both PCs are in Akasa Eclipse's atm. One I modded to mount a radiator in the roof and floor - two 120.2 rads, so I had to make sure I could mount the same number of rads in whatever case I choose, I went for the Coolermaster as it's alot of case for very little cash (need two of them)

I have just bought the case, so should be here for the weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing it in the flesh :drool:
I would like to wc the 5870 too, we'll see - EK 5870 Acetal + Nickel - I'll probably talk myself into it hehe

Thanks, yeah should be :D

you must spend some serious money on your machines mate.

Im not an intel guy so never built a machine with a Intel chip, just find they are too expensive.

Like the i7 yeah its great but is it really worth paying top $$$ for it? Some of the prices are crazy.

Or maybe i am just too simple minded :D

These days paying the extra for intel is defo worth it. Before the "Core Duo" line of chips I would (and did) probably go AMD.

However when i rebuild my main gaming rig with i7, I have decided it's time for a new Extreme Edition (*sells kidney*), I'll start a new project log once I have finished this one (this will be my stand in main rig :up:)

The funny this is nothing is cheap anymore, you need a fast chip, then because you got a fast chip may as well get the best memory that can run with it. While getting them may as well make sure you have the most expensive motherboard to run the better.

Oh wait im using it for gaming so will have to get a good graphics card....ring bank manager for loan lol

do you do most of your buying off overclockers?

I mainly use lambdatek, always seem to have the part i need in stock and normally one of the cheapest

no not really, I use them as a reference and to see whats coming out :up:

I got the case yesterday, then realised I actually had an old Seasonic 720 watt PSU. I'll get a Corsair 750watt ordered over the weekend so i can start getting everything ready :up:

According to the DPD website my parcel (PSU) is due between 12 and 1pm - very impressed with their tracking system :up:
I'll get some pics up soon :D

I finally had some time to unpack and have a look at the case, looking through the manual and how it comes apart I found that the top fan mounts for 120mm fans are actually sandwiched between the top of the chassis and the plastic trim, which means you can save a bit of room in the top. However the 140mm fans have to be attached inside the chassis.
I think I will add a 120.2 Black Ice stealth up there, and have the Feser 120.2 in the floor.
I found a spare DDC 3.2 18watt Pump, so i just need to get the 5870 and Stealth rad :up:

Finally got some time to strip it all down, everything is amazing the internal matt black finish is lovely - not sure if you can make that out in the pictures.
Build quality is very good, I'm amazed it's only £80.
I'm gonna try and fit the PSU and rad tomorrow *crosses fingers*

I got slightly side-tracked - I have been rebuilding Jez's PC for him, it looks lovely now all copper Enzotech mosfets, southbridge and Swiftech copper northbridge cooler finished of by a copper Zalman CNPS9700. I hope he will post some pics soon.

Back to my project, I'm gonna get my Asus 5870 ordered this week, in the meantime I need to fit the rad and PSU later/tomorrow and get some pics up then :up:

Dam, I'm having trouble getting the rad (Feser 120.2) to fit anywhere, it's just too big :S
I'm gonna try and fit a 140.2. I'll see what happens :(

I thought that the case can fit 2 x 240mm radiators with ease?

me to, but if i put it in the roof it blocks the top mosfet cooler and in the floor it block all my PSU connectors (except 2) :(
I'm gonna try a 120.2 Black Ice Extreme & a stealth (Stealth won't be a problem) I guess I could use 2x 120.2 stealths (roof & floor).
I'm gonna have a look again later

I'm going to order one of these for it i think -

I have just used a bashed up Stealth 240 I have laying around to check measurements etc, and I think I can use 2x Black Ice Stealth 240 (120.2) in the roof and floor.
I will order them in a min, along with a EK Supreme HF.
I'll let you know how I get on :up:

Any updates? Looking forward to seeing the CM690 II with dual internal radiators.

I've been waiting for more stock of the 240 Stealths, gonna try and order a couple later today (now I'm back home :D)

EDIT: Their back in stock now so will have them in a couple of days :up:

Yeah I think that pump is one of the 18watt versions so will be fine, I have used a similar setup in an Akasa some pics and it handled CPU, northbridge, southbridge and mosfets with a black ice GTX 240 and a Black Ice Stealth 240 (the most restrictive rad) with no problems in over 2 years :up:

finally got the rads ordered, they should be here tomorrow :D

This project turned into an air cooled PC (see sig - Rig 2) but I will restart it again when I can get another CM-690 as this will have the cpu, motherboard and ram from rig 1 when I get i7 hardware for it (rig 1)

Once the move around has been completed Rig 3 (see sig) will be retired to my living room :D

This chip is a hot chip but runs very nicely under this A50 about 32 deg C idle, I'll get a load reading later.
I'll add a few pictures later.

Here's a couple of pictures of it as is.
I have already bought the second CM-690 II, I'm just waiting for some new motherboards to come out before I go Sandybridge in my Silverstone.
Then I will get a couple of GTX 570s for the CM-690 PCs and the old Silverstone hardware will go in the 2nd CM-690.
Anyway the pictures atm....

I'm just waiting on some stock of the Asus GTX 570 so I can put one in here, I think 570's will be good for rig 2 and 3.
It will be nice to have dx 11 spec all round anyway.

I'm considering putting an i5 2500k and a Z68 mobo in here (or in my bedroom rig, not sure which to do first). In the meantime I wanna get the gfx upgraded in here.
I will probably get a reference GTX 570, though I have been thinking about a reference Asus 6970. We will see....
