I have restored the BIOS to default previously (after Steve left), strange how it has all gone back to default though ?! Does default not mean the same as reset?

On board sound and graphics now disabled and drivers deleted, Nvidia drivers 327.23 now installed for 24 hours without issue - yay!

However, I foolishly enabled ultra fast boot in the BIOS and whilst I can confirm it works excellently, it unfortunately disables the USB's from working until it gets to window, thus rendering the del / F8 buttons totally useless!! The only thing I can think of is to get a PS2 connector for my usb keyboard (i have 5 keyboards here all USB!!).

This is going to be one loooooong thread, I can feel it

Restoring to defaults, would set the motherboard back to factory settings.

Oh good, now to get a nice stable oc

Is there a button on the motherboard to boot straight to BIOS?
If not just restore the BIOS again. Remembering to do the Intel GFX and on-board sound again.
There's probably a clear cmos button on the rear io.

I had to use the clear cmos option in the end. It worked and got me in into the BIOS. Before that it came up and said that the BIOS had been reset.

However! It is still the same which in interesting: CPU status still shows 4.3 ghz but there isn't an option to change it within that tab. Frequency still shows 3.50 ghz

    IMG_3704.jpgIMG_3705.jpg

Ram is still the same at 1333 Mhz

    IMG_3709.jpg

The BIOS has 100% reset as i had forgotten to change the sata config back to raid and it wouldn't boot.

    IMG_3708.jpg

The only options I have easily seen to reset, save etc are:

Apologies for the quality of the pictures and them being the wrong way around etc!

No problem mate, you see in the first picture it says "Performance Upgrade" set to auto, set that to manual and that should stop the auto overclock.
There's also "CPU Upgrade" what are the options there? Set manual if possible.

You can try to add these setting..

CPU Clock Ratio to 40 or 42
    Memory Frequency to 1600MHz

and that may over-ride the auto clock.

    Well that was interesting!

    Options are as follows lol:

There's also "CPU Upgrade" what are the options there? Set manual if possible.
I think we may have found the issue:

    IMG_3714.jpg

Because of the above, I didn't change the CPU Clock Ratio to 40 or 42

However there was one success, I think!

    Memory Frequency to 1600MHz

Cool, but those timings on the RAM are a bit high 11-12-12-33 at 1600MHz. I have 9-9-9-24 at 1600MHz.
So what is your current CPU speed? Still 4.3GHz?
And what settings do you have under "Advanced CPU Core Settings"?

So yeah it looks like both the CPU Upgrade and Performance Upgrade are both auto clocking the system.
There must be a setting to turn them both off?
I've looked through the manual and found nothing yet. It would help if they showed the right BIOS in it.
Maybe like I say setting them manually will override these auto settings.

I think I might have worked it out. I downloaded gigabytes app called easy-tune. I didn't change anything but I think this explains the reason its like it is.

    IMG_3717.jpg

So for example my system is on "medium" which is set at 4.3, default is 3.9, energy saving is at .9 and so on.

What I'm getting at is that it seems like it comes like that a standard?! Not sure but it seems that way at the moment.

Yeah, it's the same on the ASUS boards, they will clock the chip straight out of the box you have to set it to manual to stop it. But I'm not familiar enough with Gigabytes new boards to say do this and it will stop.
And as the CPU Up and other settings don't have a off setting, I can only assume if you set it manually in the BIOS it will override the auto oc.

I agree, its just a case of trying to maneuver around the gigabyte jungle lol

Ok so i have got it down to 3.50 ghz but through the easy tune app.

Went into advanced, cores and changed turbo ratio down to 35, apply and voila!! Seems a strange way of doing it though.

Ok so I have played around with it and now have a "consistent" 3.50 Ghz as well as changing the voltage to 1.24 for the time being.

I have also increased the ram to 1800 Mhz.

This how I got the chip to normal speed. Not sure its the correct way but it was done in the BIOS rather than an app, which is good.

I went into the performance tab and then into advanced CPU core settings

    Advanced CPU core settings.jpgFrequency tab.jpg

In there I changed Intel Turbo boost tech from Auto to enabled and then changed the 4 individual cores to 35. It seems to have worked so far, although the memory timings still aren't right (11-12-12-33)

Cool, the default CPU Ratio is 35 and the default Turbo Ratio is 39 for these 4770k's.
Looking at CPU-Z I think you have changed the Turbo Ratio down to 35, because it says...

    Multiplier: x35 (8 -35)

So I would change it to 39 or 40 so it has a range of 8-40, that will give you a normal range for the CPU.
Let me know how you get on.

I changed them all to 40 and the its now showing the CPU at 4 Ghz. It looks like that tab is changing the CPU speed. Or am I doing it wrong?
