    Default Intel P45 - Should I Buy????

    Hiya guys,
I've got my eye on the Asus Maximus II Formula Intel P45 DDR2, as i still haven't seen either a X48 DDR3 ROG or a P45 DDR3 ROG board? What is Asus doing? No more DDR3 mobo's???
Plus with DDR2 u can get 8GB of wicked Geil for ?150 inc vat - so i'm very tempted
    Does anyone have any idea?
    Thanks for your help
    Regards

    Lloyd

    EDIT: 8GB of PC6400 GEIL ?81.99

    2 X48/DDR3 extreme boards here:

    Foxconn BlackOps
    http://www.quantum-force.net/Products/P000000004/

    Asus Rampage Extreme
    http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...67&modelmenu=1

honestly, the Maximus II formula (P45) is a very good board and from what I read will perform almost as well as its DDR3 competitors...

Fantastic, not sure how i missed that Asus one. Looks like that'll be my upgrade for my TJ07. Now i just need to make my mind up on CPU, GFX will be what ever the best nVidia is at the time.
    Thanks mate

Foxconn has a dedicated section @ XS:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/Forums/...play.php?f=281
(you'll find tests about the BlackOps/X48 and the Dreadnought/790UltraSLI)

    Rampage Extreme thread here:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/Forums/...ampage+extreme

ps: some bad news about foxconn bios, not clear yet whether this was intentional or if that's a bug, hope that's a bug:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/Forums/...d.php?t=196159
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=869249
    .
actually, the only thing the Maximus II P45 lacks when compared to X48 boards is a 2 x 16 lanes on PCIe in CF. First AMD/ATI themselves said in regards to current games, 2 x 8 in CF doesn't make any difference, and second, if you want to put an NVidia GFX , it means one card only on an Intel board, so 16 lanes on one PCIe with P45, same as on X48.

it's been one of MS' dreams to convince makers of producing dedicated mobos for Windows, with hard coded bios to avoid piracy, but well... I can't imagine Foxconn doing that. Read Saaya's post ( http://www.xtremesystems.org/Forums/...8&postcount=11) in the XS thread, he's working for Foxconn. On the other end Foxconn might soon become as major as Asus, if they would use such a mean to achieve their goal, can't say...
